The Diamond Hitch program teaches youth the traditional art of tying the diamond hitch, a lashing technique long used in equine packing to secure gear on packhorses. Through hands-on instruction, youth learn the skills needed to safely fasten packbags, packboxes, and other backcountry equipment for travel through rugged mountain terrain. More than a practical lesson, this program captures the passing down of knowledge from one generation to the next, helping preserve the horsemanship, packing skills, and mountain traditions that remain an important part of Alberta’s Eastern Slopes heritage.
